About Caring for Parents

Caring for Parents is for adult children who suddenly find themselves researching grab bars, pill dispensers and alert systems, often from another city. We explain what matters, what to check before you buy or sign a contract, and how to raise these changes with a parent who may not want them.

How we decide what to recommend

We start with the problem a reader is trying to solve, then work backward to what actually matters when choosing: durability, fit for the job, total cost over time, and the mistakes owners report most often. We read manufacturer documentation, extension-service and agency guidance, and long-running owner discussions, and we summarize what we find in plain language.

We say plainly when something is category guidance rather than hands-on testing. When we have owned and used a product ourselves, the pick says so. We never invent tests, reviews, or experiences.
